Frequently Asked Questions

SAAFER claims to be unbiased, how is this possible?

When we say unbiased, we mean that we are not strictly dedicated to one particular alternative. Many organizations are founded to raise awareness of one particular product such as: biodiesel, solar power, ethanol, etc… In some cases, organizations are set up by companies to push new industry specific products on consumers. SAAFER represents a much larger picture of alternative energy. As new research begins, we want to be able to advance alongside of science. Therefore, SAAFER remains unbiased and interested only in what will be most beneficial for the public, helpful in reducing our reliance on foreign oil, and improving clean & renewable technologies.

How can I be sure my contribution is going to funding research?

As SAAFER awards grants to projects, we will have a special webpage dedicated to those projects that have been funded by SAAFER. This will allow the public to see what and where contributions have gone. Throughout the length of the project, we will ask for periodic updates from the research team. Once these updates are received, they will be posted on the site for public viewing. Some administrative and fundraising costs will be paid from contributions, but all proceeds outside of these costs will go directly to alternative energy research.

Other than contributions, how can I help SAAFER?

There is no other way. You must contribute money and lots of it!! Just kidding. One of the best ways you can help is by spreading the word that SAAFER is out there. As a newer organization, knowledge of our existence is always an obstacle for us. Proudly display your decal and inform people what and who it stands for. Another way to assist, is informing us of any alternative fuel & energy research projects you are aware of that needs additional funding. You can send us an email at myproject@saafer.org. As a public charity, we value all opinions and ideas.

How does SAAFER differ from similar Alternative or Renewable Fuel organizations?

SAAFER’s ultimate goal is to provide our scientific community with adequate funding so they can concentrate on their work. Many other charities purpose is to either educate and inform the public or in some way change legislation. SAAFER agrees that information and knowledge are crucial to make changes, however we feel there is perhaps a greater benefit in advancing our technology and product delivery. As we recently witnessed during the Technology Revolution, as science makes advances, more products become available and prices tend to drop. We feel that once alternative products become more readily available, convenient, and affordable, the public will begin to embrace Alternative Fuel and Energy.

How does SAAFER decide the recipient of the grant(s)?

Once a grant application has been submitted, the board of directors and executives will review all applications and begin to decide which project(s) is most deserving of SAAFER funding. Ideally, we’d like to find ideas and research with big intentions, big hopes, and little funding. Currently, many promising research projects are being conducted and receiving substantial grants from the government. In an attempt to fund those projects not already receiving large government grants, we will weigh a project’s current funding with its goals and determine how effectively and immediately the public will benefit from the project.

If the government already gives money to Energy Research, why should we give more?

Unfortunately, there are many smaller - lesser known researchers out there that do not receive adequate funding to conduct proper research. At SAAFER, we believe relief from our oil crisis will require a wide array of concepts, ideas and research projects. Many of our country’s greatest achievements have come from once unknown sources. Since the government is far less likely to take risks, The Department of Energy allocates it’s funding to more established and proven laboratories. At times, politics may play a large role in which project is funded. Additionally, the United States has already fallen significantly behind many other countries in this field. Whether it’s due to politics, lack of time, or a sheer lack of interest, the government is simply not doing enough. SAAFER’s only interest and mission is providing realistic alternatives and solutions for the public, not politics!! At SAAFER, we are tired of waiting for the government’s solutions; through contributions and research, we will work together to provide our own solution(s).
